For this project I tracked my own sleep habits in order to compare them to recommended amounts of sleep as well the Canadian average. I did this to see how I compared to these two baselines. I used the 'Sleep Meister App' to record not only the length of my sleep, but the quality. To do this it records how long it takes you to fall asleep, length of sleep vs time in bed, the patterns of deep to light sleep, and the efficiency of sleep, (amount of REM sleep vs disturbed sleep).
One of the reasons it is so important to get enough sleep is it's effect on mental health. Lack of sleep can worsen symptoms of anxiety and depression as well as elevating general stress levels. By tracking sleep patterns one can better understand how sleep habits effect them.
